• Waubonsie Valley High School

    Project Summary

    Total Project Budget: $143.8 Million
    Referendum Funds: $130.0 Million
    Contracted to Date: $8.1 Million

Waubonsie Valley High School opened in 1975, with multiple additions added in 1991, 1992 and 1995. As the building approaches its 50th anniversary, significant reinvestment in the facility is necessary to ensure the building continues to serve the community for the next 50 years.

The master facility plan for Waubonsie Valley High School identified significant needs due to aging infrastructure, poor circulation, limited visibility, a lack of natural daylight, and programmatic inequalities compared with other District 204 high schools and neighboring districts.

Comprehensive improvements to Waubonsie began in May 2025 with the renovation of the auditorium. The next phase of work will begin in the Spring of 2026 and continue over several years. Planned improvements include:

    1. Secure vestibule at the front of the building for checking in all visitors and enhancing security

    2. Mechanical upgrades and system replacements throughout the building

    3. A reimagined main office, atrium and commons space, improving circulation and movement throughout the building, increasing natural daylight, and modernizing the student dining experience

    4. Renovations to the library and supporting spaces such as counseling, media production, and tutoring/interventions

    5. Centralized class houses and department workrooms, improving student access to these services

    6. Renovated classroom spaces for technology, engineering, and applied arts

    7. Numerous improvements to physical education and athletics spaces, including renovated locker rooms, improved fitness, cardio and weight room spaces, and field improvements, including expanded stadium bleachers and installation of turf field

    8. Building-wide LED lighting, furniture and classroom technology upgrades
