Emergency Medications
Indian Prairie School District 204 maintains a stock of rescue medications for use in student emergency situations. The following emergency medications are stored in our health offices.
Albuterol Inhaler: This is a bronchodilator for use should a person experience acute respiratory distress.
Epinephrine Auto-Injectors: This medication is administered in the event of a life-threatening allergic reaction.
Naloxone: Narcan (Naloxone) is an opioid antagonist which will be given in the event of a suspected opioid overdose.
These lifesaving medications are administered by trained personnel. Students who receive Epinephrine or Naloxone will be immediately transported to the nearest hospital via EMS. Students who receive Albuterol will be reassessed following administration to determine the need for emergency transport. Parents will be immediately notified should their student need to receive a rescue medication.
If you would like further information on these rescue medications and their use in our schools, please reference the Board of Education Policy via the link below or call a member of your school's health services team.
