      Meet Mrs. Klaeren

      ELL teacher

Mrs. Klaeren is very happy to be teaching ELL at Spring Brook. Mrs. Klaeren has been teaching in District 204 since 2015. She started at McCarty Elementary School as a long term substitute ELL teacher. She also worked as a Kindergarten, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade teacher. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Illinois State University and her Master’s in Teaching and Learning with a concentration in ELL from St. Francis University. Mrs. Klaeren grew up in Elmhurst and currently resides in Lisle with her husband and 2 sons. She likes to spend her free time with friends and family. Her favorite part about teaching is helping students realize how special they are and helping them to reach their full potential.

    • Students receive ELL services based on two models of instruction: push-in and pull-out and depend on the needs of the student.

      Push-in:

      • Instruction takes place in the students’ grade level classrooms.
      • Materials and strategies are appropriate for all students and are specifically adapted to meet the needs of ELL students.

      Pull-out:

      • Students receive ESL services outside of their regular classrooms.
      • Instruction takes place in small group settings.
      • Students are grouped by grade level.
      • ESL instruction is based on district grade level curriculum; therefore, students are not missing core content while out of the classroom.
      • Materials and strategies correlate with students’ English proficiency levels.

The goals of the ELL program are:

      • To develop English skills while learning grade-level appropriate academic content.
      • To develop academic English language proficiency to assist students in meeting Illinois Learning Standards as well as the Illinois English Language Proficiency Standards.
