The Monarch Award is a Kindergarten through third grade Illinois Children's Choice award. Students must read at least five books from the list in order to participate in the voting in late February or early March.

Illinois has a children's choice award for students in the third through fifth grade. Called the Bluestem Award, it has books from many different genres included in the list. If students read at least four books from this list, they will be invited to a Bluestem voting party sometime in March.
