• The needs of struggling readers are the primary focus of the Reading Improvement program. Students will be instructed in small group setting which provide additional practice and the opportunity to re-teach skills not obtained in the classroom. The small group setting allows students to build self-confidence, which may not be obtained in the classroom, if the material is too difficult.

Students in the Reading Improvement Program are given the opportunity to work with materials at their instructional level, so that they can become independent readers. Developmentally, Reading Improvement students may need more time to acquire skills and reading proficiencies. Reading Improvement students need consistent, successful, literacy experiences to compensate for delayed development of independent reading skills.
