- Indian Prairie School District #204
- Overview
-
When will District 204 use an e-Learning day?
The district may use an e-Learning day when school is closed due to inclement weather. If the superintendent announces that schools are closed, a determination will be made if the district is utilizing an e-Learning day or an emergency day. If an emergency day is used, no e-Learning will be implemented, and the day will be made up at the end of the school year. If an e-Learning day is used, a continuation of learning is expected, and the day will not be added to the end of the school year.
How will students and parents be notified if an e-Learning day will be used?
Parents and students will be notified just as they have been informed in the past of weather-related school closings. The announcement will be made by 6 am and posted at www.ipsd.org. The district will also make a 204 Connect phone call to alert you of the information. Parents and students can also check the Emergency Closing Center for school closings.
What will it look like for students?
Student work on the first day should be completely independent. If a student is expressing difficulty, they should email the teacher for assistance. Flexibility will be provided for assignment due dates when appropriate. The total amount of assigned work should take no longer than five hours for completion.
On the second consecutive day, and any subsequent consecutive days, synchronous and asynchronous sessions will be provided. Synchronous sessions will be provided through Google Meets. Students will join Google Meets through their Google classrooms. At K-1, links will be emailed if no Google Classroom is set up. You can find sample schedules on this page. Schools will send home their exact schedules.
FAQ: E-Learning Day
-
What happens if my child needs assistance?
Teachers will be available to students through their school email. If email is not available, please call the school’s main office. Your phone message will be sent to the teacher.
-
When will e-learning day assignments be posted?
Assignments will be posted by the start time of the regular school day. Kindergarten and first grade students will be given assignments ahead of time to be completed on the e-learning day. Consideration will be given to students that need additional time to complete assignments due to unforeseen circumstances.
-
What if we don’t have Internet access at our home?
Students will not be penalized if they do not have Internet service, but they will be responsible for completing the work requiring the Internet when they return to school. They may also be provided with alternate activities prior to the e-learning day to be completed on that day.
-
What do I do if I have technology-related questions during an e-learning day?
If a student is having technology-related issues, please notify the teacher, so they are aware. Check out the technology knowledge base for helpful hints to self remedy many issues. https://204support.ipsd.org/kb
-
How will attendance be taken?
Attendance will be assumed as present for all students other than those that had a predefined absence for the day or called in that morning.
On any subsequent days, teachers will take attendance for students that are participating synchronously. Students will be expected to be visible on screen.
-
How will the e-learning day impact after-school activities?
After-school activities will be treated the same as if school were closed. All elementary activities will be canceled. Middle and high school activities will be determined depending on the weather and road conditions. Schools will communicate about after-school activities directly with parents.
-
Do e-learning days have to be made up at the end of the school year?
The state has determined that e-learning days do not extend the school year, so no emergency days will be used at the end of the year due to e-learning days. Other rare instances may cause the cancelation of school and the need to add a day to the end of the school year. An example would be a lack of power and/or internet throughout the district due to a major incident or weather event.
-
Are there other days when the district would consider the use of an e-Learning Day?
The district will use e-Learning on certain days when schools are used as polling places. We have indicated these days on the school calendar. As we are able to plan for these days, they would follow the synchronous day schedule that was shown above in this FAQ.
