Nancy Young Families,
I’d like to welcome you back to a new school year. My name is Mr. Maldonado and I am the full-time PE teacher at Young. Assisting me this year on Thursdays is Mr. Persson. He is the full time teacher within District 204.
This page will give you information regarding our mission statement, curriculum, grading, as well as rules and consequences. In addition, IPSD #204 Physical Education Department provides physical fitness testing for all students in grades 1-5.;
This test includes assessments in running, curl-ups, push-ups and flexibility. Assessments are administered in the fall and re-tested in spring. Tests are given and scored according to a student’s age.
If we can be of any assistance to you or if you have comments or questions please do not hesitate to give us a call. We are committed to providing your child with a positive and challenging Physical Education experience!
Respectfully,
Mr. Maldonado & Mr. PerssonHow often does my child have PE?
PE is 25 minutes, three times per week
What happens if my child is sick?
In the event that your child is recovering from an illness or injury you may request in writing that he/she be excused from participation in PE class for up to three (3) days. After the third day a note from a physician is required for continued exclusion.
How will my child be graded?
Student grades for children K-5 will be based on the LAPS method.
L: Listening
A: Attitude
P: Participation
S: Skills, shoesWhat are the consequences for not following the rules?
- 1st time: Verbal warning
- 2nd time: Sit out of activity for a few minutes.
- 3rd time: Broken rule note written up.
