Reflections
Reflections is a national PTA-sponsored program that encourages students to explore their creativity in the arts. Students in all grades K-5 can submit one or more entries in any or all of the following categories: Visual Arts, Photography, Literature, Dance Choreography, Musical Composition, or Film/Video Production.
2022-2023 PTA Reflections Theme:
SHOW YOUR VOICE!
Below are documents and instructions that will help you as you work on your project. Please pay special attention to the Official Rules for the category in which your artist is participating. Depending on the category, some of the rules are very specific. The Nancy Young Elementary PTA is not allowed to advance any entries that do not fully comply with the National PTA Reflection Rules; therefore, entries not in compliance will not have the opportunity to advance to judging at the IPPC.

Art Awareness
Art Awareness
We are hoping to restart Art Awareness during second semester. Stay tuned!
Art Awareness is a fun experience. It consists of one approximately 45-60 minute visit to the classroom per month to present an artist/artwork and lead a simple art project. It does not require any prior knowledge or skill in art to facilitate.
Art Awareness Presentation Guidelines
Timeline:
1st or 2nd day of the Month
- Contact the teacher to select an agreeable date and time for your presentation. Plan on 30-45minutes, unless extended time for involved projects is approved.
2-3 Weeks Prior
- Sign Out the scheduled Artist’s packet from the Art Awareness cabinet in the LMC.
- Read through the file taking notes or outline your presentation.
- Choose information that is age appropriate.
- Anticipate questions for that grade level.
1 Week Prior
- Develop a project if desired. Check the Art Awareness file cabinets for available supplies.
- Contact Art Awareness Chairperson for any requests for other supplies.
1 Day before
- Fill in and Photocopy the “Dear Parents” Classroom Letter.
- Collect Project Supplies and store in Art Awareness Bins
Day of Presentation
- Arrive EARLY to gather the supplies, print and set up in the classroom. Plan on getting there 15 minutes early.
- Make your Presentation.
- Make sure to CLEAN UP and leave the classroom as you found it. The teachers appreciate this.
After the Presentation
- Hang the print back where you found it.
- Fill out the volunteer comment sheet and place it in the Artist’s Packet.
- Check the Artist Packet back into the Art Awareness file cabinet where you found it.
- Return the remaining art supplies as well
- Make sure to clean up the supplies and leave them as you found them so they will be ready for the next person.
Helpful tips when Visiting the Classroom:
Be Enthusiastic!!- It is contagious.
Be Prepared - Use Notes, but don’t read from them,
If there is a Power Point Presentation, these have been very helpful.
Have children remain seated so everyone can see and participate.
Adjust your presentation for the age level.
Short and simple is best for younger audience.
RELAX and Enjoy the kids!! They LOVE this.
Let the children ask questions and talk about the picture.
Help them to see and feel things in the picture.
Remember there is no right or wrong when it comes to Art!
Know that the experience you provided the children made a difference!
