Meet our Leadership Team
Principal - Dr. Elizabeth Pohlmann
Welcome to Steck Elementary School! It is my honor to serve the Steck community! My work in education started as a child when I "played teacher" at home with my siblings and neighborhood friends. I knew at an early age that there is no job more important than that of an educator.
I began my career as a high school mathematics teacher, coach, and dean. From high school, I moved on to the middle school level as an assistant principal. My time in elementary started at Steck Elementary school 2011 and I have been here ever since. It is a great place to be with a wonderful community. Together we are all dedicated to the success of our school and growth of our students.
My education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and secondary education from the University of St. Francis, a Master's degree in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University, and a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Northern Illinois University.
I have two children with my husband, who is also a teacher and coach. When I am not at school I enjoy supporting my kids in sports and activities, spending time with friends and family, being outside, and reading.
I value the partnership we have with our school community. I invite you to be involved in our school and your child's education. Please reach out to us with any questions or concerns. We are here to help and support one another!
Student Services Coordinator - Ms. Katie Vande Guchte
Hello! Steck Elementary is an amazing place to be! I am so fortunate to get to work in such a great community of students, families, and staff. Just like Dr. Pohlmann, I always knew I wanted to be in education playing school with my friends. One of my earliest memories is making them do a space project one summer for me to grade.
My education background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education K-12 with a focus on learning disabilities and Elementary Education (K-8) from Hope College. I earned a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University.
Prior to my role as Student Services Coordinator, I was a special education teacher at various Indian Prairie District 204 buildings. I was in both supported education settings and self-contained settings. Each building has a unique community that has shaped me as an educator.
Outside of school, I am busy raising my two kids, shuffling them around with their activities and making family memories. I enjoy running, reading, and listening to podcasts when I can find free time!
I am so excited for this coming school year to partner with you and your child’s education. It is a privilege to support our students in their academic and emotional growth in these early years. Steck is an amazing place to be and we are so lucky to have you here! Feel free to reach out any time. We are here to support all our students to reach their greatest potential!
Student Services Coordinator - Mrs. Kristine Micheles
My name is Kristine Micheles and I am excited to join the Steck Elementary community. I am starting my 16th year as an educator in IPSD 204. I began my career in 204 at Longwood Elementary as a special education teacher, then moved to Owen Elementary as a self-contained SEL teacher. From there, I taught self-contained at Neuqua Valley High School before moving into the Student Services Coordinator role at Kendall Elementary.
I received my undergraduate degree in Special Education from Northern Illinois University followed by my Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Benedictine. In addition, I have my Reading Teacher Endorsement from Lewis University. I am a Leaders for Just Schools Certified Educator and co-facilitate a cohort as part of the Opportunity Coalition through the National Education and Illinois Education Associations.
Outside of work, I spend time with my spouse and two senior pitties, Rumble and Gigi, playing in the backyard and snuggling on the couch. We enjoy traveling, car shows, and exploring new restaurants in our area.
I’m looking forward to meeting you!
