    • The Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award is given to the author whose book receives the most votes from young readers in Illinois. The purposes of this award are to encourage students in grades 4-8 to read for personal satisfaction, to develop a statewide awareness of outstanding literature for young people, to promote a desire for literacy, and to encourage cooperation among Illinois agencies providing educational and library service to young people.

The fourth and fifth grade students select and read titles from the list. In October, students are introduced to the books through booktalks provided by Mrs. Loughran, the LMC Director.  Most of the Rebecca Caudill books from the master list are available for check out in the Fry LMC. Students are required to read or hear a minimum of three titles to be eligible to vote in February. The winning book will be announced in March.

More information about the Rebecca Caudill Young Reader's Book Award, and the current master list can be found at the program website: http://www.rebeccacaudill.org.

    • The Bluestem Book Award is given to the author whose book receives the most votes from readers in Illinois in grades 3-5.

The award is designed for students in grades 3-5 who are ready for longer titles than found on the Monarch list, but not quite ready for the sophistication of some of the Rebecca Caudill titles. Named in honor of Big Bluestem which is the state prairie grass, the award may include both timeless classics and current titles, as well as books that have appeared on Monarch and Rebecca Caudill lists.

    • The Monarch Book Award is given to the author whose book receives the most votes from young readers in Illinois. "The name Monarch was chosen because of its familiarity to K-3 children and to symbolize the growth, change and freedom that becoming a reader brings. The Monarch is designed to encourage children to read critically and become familiar with children's books, authors and illustrators." (Illinois School Library Media Association)

The Kindergarten - 3rd grade students select and read titles from the list. In the fall, students are introduced to the books through booktalks provided by Mrs. Loughran, the LMC Director.  The books from the master list are available for check out in the Fry LMC. Students are required to read or hear a minimum of five titles to be eligible to vote in February. The winning book will be announced in March.
